Welcome!

Happy New Year and welcome to my LiveJournal. At this point in time and until I can think of a better name, I'm going to be calling this little place Tar Frimmer's Guide to Nothing. This will mostly be a place for me to ramble on about my entertainment obsessions - TV shows, movies, DVDs, books, video games, etc. I'll make every effort to clearly mark any spoilers so as not to ruin the plots for those who haven't seen whatever it is I'm going on about.

I'll also be sharing various bits of entertainment (or odd) news I find throughout each day. Since Veronica Mars is my biggest TV addiction right now and is the only online fandom I'm actively participating in, there will probably be a lot of Mars-related posts by me here. Consider yourselves warned. ;)

Just to give an idea of the types of shows and movies I'll be talking about, I've made up a few lists. Hey, what would the end of a year be without lists, lists, and more lists?

TV Shows Currently on the Air That I Make Every Effort Not to Miss

  • Veronica Mars
  • Battlestar Galactica
  • Lost
  • Nip/Tuck
  • Alias (I'm 3 eps behind on this right now - bad fan)
  • 24
  • Stargate: SG-1
  • Stargate: Atlantis
  • The 4400
  • Invasion
  • Prison Break
  • The Dead Zone (I'm 3 eps behind on this one, too - shame on me)
  • Renting Through Netflix as Seasons Become Available

  • Deadwood
  • The Sopranos
  • All-Time Favorite TV Show (and mother of all obsessions)

  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer
  • Other Past TV Loves (by decade in which they premiered)

  • 1980's: Alien Nation, Fame, Friday the 13th the Series, Moonlighting, Remington Steele, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Tales of the Gold Monkey, V
  • 1990's: American Gothic, Angel, Babylon 5, Cowboy Bebop, Crusade, Earth 2, Farscape, Highlander, Roswell, VR5, La Femme Nikita, Space: Above & Beyond, Twin Peaks, The X-Files
  • 2000's: Carnivale, Firefly, Witchblade, Wonderfalls
  • 10 Favorite Movies That I Saw in 2005 (but were not necessarily released in 2005)

  • Serenity
  • Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

  • The Phantom of the Opera (2004)
  • The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
  • The Notebook
  • 20 Favorite Films/Film Series of Years Past

  • The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
  • Star Wars (the whole lot of them)
  • The Princess Bride
  • Spaceballs
  • Jurassic Park
  • Fright Night
  • The Fog (1980)
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
  • Moulin Rouge (2001)
  • Singin' in the Rain
  • Donnie Darko
  • Fight Club
  • Jaws
  • Army of Darkness
  • Legend (1985)
  • The Matrix Trilogy
  • The Indiana Jones Trilogy
  • Alien/Aliens
  • Desperado (1995)
  • Harry Potter Films
  • Ok, that was painful trying to narrow it down. And yes, I kind of cheated with the series and trilogies, but I couldn't help it! I've seen far too many movies and own far too many DVDs to choose between them.

    10 Books/Book Series I Enjoy

  • Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
  • The Vampire Chronicles Series by Anne Rice
  • The Stand by Stephen King
  • The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
  • Wicked by Gregory Maguire
  • It by Stephen King
  • The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
  • The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
  • Dune by Frank Herbert
  • Dracula by Bram Stoker
  • Some things I'll likely be commenting on in the near future, since they're what's entertaining me right now:

    I'm Watching:

  • Battlestar Galactica: the Miniseries and Seasons 1 & 2 - in preparation for the return of new episodes on Friday 01/06/06. (Yay!)
  • Netflix Just Shipped to Me:

  • Crash (2005)
  • Dark Water (2005)
  • Fantastic Four (2005)
  • Gracie's Choice
  • I'm Reading: Angels and Demons by Dan Brown (borrowed from a friend)

I'm Playing: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II on Xbox

DVDs Purchased This Past Week (12/26 - 12/31)

  • Battlestar Galactica: Season 1 (DVD)
  • Long Way Round (DVD)
  • The Mask of Zorro: Deluxe Edition (DVD)
  • Books Purchased This Past Week (12/26 - 12/31)

  • Rats Saw God by Rob Thomas
  • I know I left something off at least one of these lists and will later be smacking hand to forehead, but those are the favorites that come to mind right at this moment. I'm not sure it's all that obvious, but I'd actually consider my favorite genre to be horror. Followed by science fiction and fantasy. There really are no genres that I'm adverse to. Same with music, with the exception of country/western, which I'm just really not into. Really not into. (With the exception of a little bit of the older Johnny Cash type of music.)

Well, that's it for the introductory post. As I watch my TV shows and movies, I'll pop on over here to share my thoughts. I may be back later this holiday weekend with some end-of-the-year Veronica Mars talk and probably a few Battlestar Galactica thoughts as I work my way through the episodes.

Happy New Year. I friended you. :)
I love my TV and movies and seems like we have much of the same taste. I will discuss with you.

I've friended you back, too, Kammi. :)

I had noticed we had at least a few shows in common. Looking forward to new episodes soon!
